Pump and Abrasion Technologies is recruiting an Application Engineer for its Technical Sales department. The company specialises in the design, manufacturing, and assembly of heavy-duty slurry pumps used in mining and industrial applications. This role is ideal for mechanical engineering graduates or early career engineers who want to combine technical problem solving with customer-facing work.
The position is based at the Head Office in Centurion, Pretoria, with regular travel to client sites. Travel typically takes place over 3 to 4 day periods, and company transport is provided. The role focuses on technical sales support, system analysis, and engineering-based solution development for customer requirements.
This is a hands-on engineering role that requires strong technical thinking, communication ability, and problem-solving skills in real-world industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist in selecting and specifying pumps based on customer requirements
• Compile technical reports and detailed engineering proposals
• Provide technical guidance to customers on product selection
• Deliver first-line technical support for pump applications
• Assist with on-site installation support when required
• Conduct system analysis and fault finding at customer sites
• Compile root cause analysis reports with engineering solutions
• Support sales representatives during technical client presentations
• Ensure customer support meets quality assurance standards consistently
Minimum Requirements
• BEng or BSc Engineering degree in Mechanical or Process Engineering
• 0 to 2 years of work experience
• Strong mechanical or process engineering foundation
• Valid driver’s licence
• Willingness to travel and stay away from home 3 to 4 days per week
Pump-related exposure is an advantage but not essential for entry level candidates.

• Strong computer literacy, especially MS Word and MS Excel

Work Environment and Expectations
This role operates in a hybrid technical and field-based environment. You will work from the Centurion office while also visiting industrial sites across South Africa. Fieldwork includes pump system inspections, troubleshooting, and client engagement.
You must be comfortable working in mining and industrial environments where safety, precision, and problem-solving are essential. The role requires adaptability, especially when responding to urgent technical challenges on site.
